Tides from NOAA station Englewood, Lemon Bay. Always check the official NWS marine forecast before heading out.
The pass at the south end of Manasota Key, next to Stump Pass Beach State Park. Moving water through the pass is the main draw for snook and redfish.
A long, narrow and shallow bay behind Manasota Key, lined with mangroves and grass flats. It's an aquatic preserve and a great place to wade or paddle for trout and reds.
Quiet Gulf beaches north of Stump Pass where pompano and whiting work the surf, and snook cruise the trough in summer.
Winter is sheepshead around docks and structure, plus redfish tailing on low tides. Spring brings pompano to the beaches and gets trout going on the Lemon Bay flats. Summer is snook in the pass and along the beach. Fall is redfish season in the mangroves as the water cools.
Stump Pass moves with the sand and has been dredged more than once, so the channel and the bars inside it change. Watch the water color and go slow by boat. In Lemon Bay a lot of the bay is only a few feet deep, so a small rise in the tide makes a big difference in where fish can get to.
Seasons, size limits and bag limits change. Check the current FWC saltwater fishing rules before you keep a fish.
Scores update with the season, the tide and the light — the forecast shows which of these is strongest right now and when it peaks this week.
